Area Information
Montagu is a historic town along the famous Route 62. It was named after John Montagu, Colonial Secretary of the Cape from 1843. To unlock the hinterland, he built a road across the sandy Cape Flats and passes through mountains. The area is home to over 50 vineyards that showcase internationally award-winning wines. The road from Cape Town, 2 hours away, to Port Elizabeth is known as the "longest wine route in the world."

There are 3 game reserves in the area hosting the big 5. Other activities include mountain climbing, horse riding, golf, spa treatments, quad biking, tractor trips, leisure boat cruises and picnics on the Breede River.
