At the foot of Nelshoogte Pass, the colonial-style Dawson's Lodge offers a relaxing retreat with spa facilities and spectacular mountain panoramas. It has an outdoor pool and a spacious garden.
Herds of zebras, giraffes and indigenous cattle roam the area, providing Dawson's guests with opportunities for wild animal watching. The perennial streams and waterfalls abound in trout, perfect for fishing.
Each room at Dawson's Game and Trout Lodge is creatively decorated with rich colours and luxurious materials. All feature fireplaces and tea/coffee facilities.

From Joburg:
Take the N12 (in the general direction of the OR Tambo Airport). This is signposted towards Witbank.
At Witbank, take the N4. (see 'From Witbank' for rest)
From Midrand:
Take the M1 North to Pretoria, following the N1 to Polokwane (Pietersburg) and the branch off onto the N4 to Witbank. (see 'From Witbank' for rest)
From Witbank:
- At Witbank, take the N4.
- Continue along the N4, past Middelburg, past Belfast, until you reach the town of Machadodorp (R541).
- Drive through Machadodorp, and keep a look out for the signs directing you to Badplaas/Barberton (This is approximately 4 streets and at a T-junction turn left. Watch for signs).
- This will take you over a pass. Take it easy as there are some hairpin bends (this is especially relevant if anyone will be driving at night).
- Once over the pass, you come to a T-junction signposted: Carolina right; Barberton Left.
- Go Left towards Barberton (R38).
- Approximately 18 km on the left hand side, look out for a row of Aloes. Dawson's Game and Trout Lodge is there. |
